COLORADO SAFE HAVEN FOR NEWBORNS

About

About Colorado Safe Haven for Newborns

Colorado Safe Haven for Newborns is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting and safeguarding the well-being of newborns in our community. Our primary mission revolves around raising awareness of Colorado’s Safe Haven law, offering a vital solution for parents facing overwhelming circumstances.

Driven by a commitment to infant welfare, we focus on funding advocacy billboards strategically placed to reach those needing this information the most. We also actively engage with fire departments and healthcare providers to ensure they are well-informed about the law and its procedures, creating a support network for families in crisis.

Through our efforts, we strive to empower parents with the knowledge of the Safe Haven law, providing a compassionate and legal alternative for those who may find themselves in difficult situations.

Join us in making a lasting impact by supporting our advocacy initiatives and contributing to a safer and more caring community for newborns in need. Together, we can raise awareness, save lives, and provide our youngest community members a brighter future.

Our Vison: A Safe Start for Every New Life

At Colorado Safe Haven for Newborns, we envision a community where no child is abandoned or at risk due to desperate circumstances. By fostering awareness, providing education, and maintaining a network of support, we strive to create an environment where parents feel empowered to make the best choice for their child’s future.

Our Initiatives:

Promote Awareness and Provide Educational Resources:
Our executive director partners with fire stations, hospitals, state affiliates, and professional healthcare organizations to educate first responders who are responsible for implementing the safe haven law. This supports our goal of promoting the safety and anonymity of the baby and birth mother and carrying out the legal provision of this life-saving law.
The National Save Haven Alliance (NSHA) staffs the 24/7 Crisis Hotline that we promote. Beyond that, we do not receive any financial support from the NSHA.

2024 Focus:

Update and Redesign Colorado Safe Haven’s Website:
Thanks to your support, we partnered with Springs Small Business Marketing to give our website a fresh look. And make it easier for mothers in crisis to find us in an on-line search.  The new site now features easily accessible resources for birth parents, information for firefighters and hospital staff, and comprehensive details about our organization’s mission.

Build Community Awareness Through Billboards:

We collaborated with various advertisers to display billboards in Longmont, Greeley, and Henderson, and three additional locations donated for Colorado Gives Day. These billboards help us reach a wider audience and spread awareness about our mission.  We will be contracting more billboards each quarter.

Baby Box Initiative:
These secure and technologically advanced boxes, strategically placed in the exterior walls of fire stations, present a tangible and safe alternative for birth parents. It’s important to note that, as of now, Baby Boxes have not yet been approved in Colorado. While our primary objective continues to be face-to-face surrendering, the Baby Boxes are envisioned as an anonymous and secure backup, ensuring the safety of newborns. We are actively working to change the verbiage of our state law to permit the inclusion of Baby Boxes, and your continued support is crucial in making this initiative a reality.  *Each box is $16,000 initially, with a delivery/install cost of $5,000-$7,000 and an annual maintenance fee of $1000 (annual recertification & annual alarm fee).
